Generally, the Gantt chart is a visual representation of a project schedule over a required time. It is one of the major tools for project management and provides milestones for the completion of a project. There are key features in the Gantt chart, such as tasks, timeline, duration of task, dependencies, and milestones. In tasks, it involves a horizontal display and vertical display of project tasks and activities where it represents the duration as well (Ramachandran & Karthick, 2019). Basically, the task duration represents the length of task completion and the duration of task completion where it starts and ends within the particular time frame. The dependencies are indicated with the help of elements such as arrows to indicate which task is allocated to members. The timeline indicates the entire duration where it indicates days, months, and weeks. In milestones, it indicates the representation of achievement.
Advantages of using Gannt chart in project planning
Transparent visualization of project timelines. It gives a clear structure and timeline where the start date of the project and end date of the project are specified. (Ramos, 2021). In addition, this helps the stakeholders and managers to stay on track.
Allocation of resources
The process is made to identify the tasks of each individual where they are allocated specifically and progress the work towards the specific timeline.
Communication tool
Acts as a major communication tool within the projects between both team members and the managers (Grant, 2024). Moreover, it gives a clear context on what are all the progress about project status and addresses issued within the communication.
Disadvantage
Certainly, too much detail is not represented with the task dependencies. So, it becomes concerning for all the dependencies in the task of projects. There is no particular priority presentation of tasks in the completion of the project. Thus, this becomes complex and confusing when there is a huge project that many subtasks to the entire chart. Also, repeatedly working on the Gantt chart becomes complex.

Overview of PERT diagrams in project planning
Generally, both program evaluation and review technique are essential tools for project planning. Unlike the Gantt chart, usage focuses on sequential tasks where it analyzes and makes the relationships between the tasks to enhance the success of the project. It involves project management with an estimation of task duration and analysis of project schedules. This has key features such as critical path, nodes, arrows, and duration of task (Kopp, 2024). In this case, the nodes indicate the initial milestone or the representation of task duration within the circle. The arrows indicate the representation of the dependency where the task needs completion. The critical path indicates the sequential analysis between the project duration and the direct impact on the project timeline. Finally, the task duration indicates the pessimistic estimation of project complications in a critical path.
Advantages of using PERT diagram in project planning
Easy analysis of criticality
It is one of the major advantages where it provides an ability to identify the critical path (Gurnov, 2024). This assesses the project managers to have a focus on important deadlines and keep the project over the specified schedule.
Estimation of time
Generally, pert diagrams are useful to estimate the timelines and accurate project schedule. Moreover, it accounts for all the variations and possibilities in task duration.
Flexible scheduling
Schedule the project with effective management. If there is a chance of delay in the project the part diagram updates with reflected changes and updates the management.
Disadvantage
The PERT diagrams are sometimes too focused. In this case, it is not suitable for all types of projects. The pert diagram involves a complex chart where it creates a lot of time to manage the project task. Subsequently, it is not an ideal tool for long-term projects that involve new tasks with a specific timeline progress, and many staff members should get involved to track the progress.

Both the Gantt chart and PERT diagram are the most important tools in the management of projects and planning of projects. To enhance the planning process and visualization with a clear set of goals, it represents the project schedules effectively. These tools help track the progress of the project with task dependencies and the allocation of resources. This helps both the stakeholders and managers to effectively track the progress in the estimated timeline. In summary, it incorporates accurate and detailed planning with potential risk involvement and powerful solutions to enhance project management toward a successful project.
