Overview of Starbucks
Starbucks application is an easy way to order food whereas Starbucks is the largest coffee house and most famous brand in the world. The headquarters of Starbucks is located in Seattle, Washington where it operates around 35,000 stores in 80 countries. Moreover, it has mass distribution of its coffee and beverages. Beverages such as it serves many beverages such as coffees, cappuccinos, espresso, sandwiches, snacks, and a wide variety of offerings (Azriuddin, et al., 2020) Also, it has a specialty of seasonal offerings. The company is present in various countries like Africa, Asia, Europe, and America. It has its manufacturing and distributing services in various countries. “Self-coffee” is another name. Also, this has enhanced its brand identity and loyalty by giving an experience to the customers.
It has offered things out of the box by creating various flavors in its coffee manufacturing. Moreover, It has maintained its uniqueness when compared to other enterprises and provided valuable experience by gathering feedback and conducting quantitative market research. Also, it has enhanced purchasing practices supported various conservation systems and programs and created opportunities for training, education, and employment. Starbucks also has enhanced many programs to reduce the environmental impact by saving energy and water and by using many systems such as recycling and construction of greens. It has made its options by expanding reusable packaging and following agricultural practices. They have invested in waste management for recycling and to eliminate food wastage.

Issue regarding the down of the application
On 12th December 2024, the Starbucks application experienced a major issue. Consequently, customers faced issues ordering drinks and purchasing reusable cups. Many customers were not able to log in to the application. The main feature which is for the payments option in the application was not working which allows customers to proceed with transactions. The functionality was not working in the application. Customers of Starbucks from the United States reported problems. Everyone expressed online order dissatisfaction. Also, expressed in social media about the issue regarding the purchases (Roy, 2024).
Earlier, it faced a ransomware attack on November 21. The third-party software supplier that Starbucks worked was Blue Yonder Group is faced the attack. The attack was faced by Starbucks where they could not see the working hours of the employees. No updates are received. Based upon the working hours the employees could get the payments for their work hours. This impacted the employee’s pay (Sirtori, 2024). Both payments and scheduling systems are affected due to ransomware attack . Although, the company was not able to pay wages for the workers which led to the outage.
Impact of down time
This consequently led to inconvenience for the customers. The complaints expressed through social media platforms customers also shifted their purchases to other local coffee shops which has impacted Starbucks’ revenue. The attack on this made and was to track employee hours and payments. This dissatisfaction has caused employees to choose other opportunities and loss of functionality, leading to many delays and increased errors. Whenever there was a downtime, the customers lost their rewards so this has also had an impact on customers interested in the brand.
There will be thousands of orders in the mobile for stores and with the app downtime and made revenue down. By social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram which provided negative feedback on Starbucks by having an impact on the brand. There was an inability to complete the transactions which complicated the situation. Consequently, this has affected a slower service rate and wastage of time for longer wait times. Observation of disappointment in the customers from the posts.

Resolving the issue and conclusion
After the outage took so much time the team announced the inconvenience. Identified the root cause. Involved many departments to solve the issues. Also, offered the customers extra cards and assured them on trusting the brand again. Starbucks guided the employees on how to handle the issue because of the outage. Also, informed the employees about the payment confirmation. The people who were missing their payments when informed to check on it and any underpayment issues are resolved in the immediate pay period and any overpayments are paid after the scheduling is done. Application downtime has impacted the digital applications of Starbucks. The technical issues are raised and it has noted the issues hence gave the assurance to the customers to trust the services.
The issues are discussed and offered transparently without having any negative impact. Also, it has been one of the most important coffee industries and it is essential for maintaining the trust of the customers in the competitive era. The new CEO of Starbucks Brian Nicole has a plan for tracking the mobile ordering system by making arrangements and changing the algorithm with the latest ones in the mobile ordering system with estimated time. Also gave limitations on how consumers customize their orders and explained the separation of order pickup areas and mobile orders in the stores (Heald, 2024). Maintained the services. Finally, they addressed the issues with the technical team. Makes sure to enhance the ordering system and updates and make the customers satisfied.
